"What's your musical horoscope?  (Put your player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.)"

    Inspired by Stephanie.

I swear my mp3 player plays different music depending on which headphones I'm using.  Here's the 1st 10 songs I listened to this morning, using my sony in-ear earbuds:

    1. Avril Lavigne – Complicated (yeah, guilty pleasure)
    2. Steadman – No Big Deal (downloaded for free from their website at one time, so-so song)
    3. Hooverphonic – The Magnificent Tree (not their best, but very pretty sounding)
    4. The All-American Rejects – My Paper Heart (catchy but pretty blah, overall)
    5. Frank Black and the Catholics – Robert Onion (I love the whole album Dog in the Sand – this is no exception)
    6. Macy Gray – My Nutmeg Fantasy (from the Spiderman movie soundtrack…it's not a bad song…)
    7. Jason Mraz – You and I Both (unfortunately, my CD is scratched and this track skipped when I ripped it…skip on to the next one, please)
    8. Jars of Clay – Liquid (yeah, I'm not really into the religious rock, but they've got a couple good songs that really nail it, musically)
    9. The Chieftans (feat. The Belfast Harp Orchestra) – Carolan's Concerto (beautiful, just beautiful)
    10. Savage Garden – Two Beds and a Coffee Machine (I don't know why I even keep their second album Afffirmation on my computer….I don't like any of the songs…)

But then, when I switched to my Bose QuietComfort II headset, I got these:

    1. Tilt – Bad Place (fun punk song, great female vocalist)
    2. SNFU – Don't Have a Cow (another punk song, complete with mooing sound effects)
    3. Big Audio (Dynamite) – Melancholy Maybe (from one of the first albums I ever owned…nostalgia hits hard here)
    4. Nickelback – Too Bad (good, solid modern rock)
    5. Just 4 Kicks – Route 66 (one of the most talented a capella vocal jazz groups out there, this entire album is great)
    6. The 5.6.7.8's – Woo Hoo (otherwise known as "That Vonage Song" from the Kill Bill Vol. 1 Soundtrack…enough said)
    7. No Use for a Name – Let It Slide (I love these guys…I need to buy more of their albums)
    8. Virginia Sil'hooettes – Video/I Do (An all-female a capella group from the University of Virginia…they've got talent, yes they do, they've got talent, how 'bout you?)
    9. Danny Elfman – Farewell (from Spiderman movie soundtrack, closing credits…always makes me wish I was a superhero)
    10. Elliot Smith – Speed Trials (Elliot Smith was an amazing singer/songwriter.  It is tragic that he is no longer with us)

Now, unless you know these songs, you may not see a WHOLE lot of difference between these two sets, but trust me, they are COMPLETELY different in terms of the ambience they create.  1st set is smooth, while the 2nd is a lot rougher, more animalistic.  And they perfectly describe my day:

- I came in this morning and passed my laptop over to the IT specialist, who spent the morning fixing something that had broken.  I spent those hours quietly creating drawings by hand, a very introspective and relaxing time.  Definitely representative of the first set.

- I then drove over to the dentist's office, where I was poked, prodded, needled, and drilled as he filled 2 cavities (yes, I've been a bad boy with my oral hygiene, no excuses!).  DEFINITELY represented by the second set.

Now I have my computer back and need to dig back into the work.  I'll see how a third set of 10 songs goes, and whether it's going to have any bearing on the rest of my afternoon.
