No, I haven't had a sexual identity crisis, I'm talking about the Bat for Lashes song.  The video's up on YouTube and it is surreal and somber and a little freaky.  That being said, it's pretty cool, too.  For those of you who have seen Donnie Darko, you'll probably feel some deja vu, as this was surely inspired by aspects of the film.  Hopefully it's a pleasant association, though.

Again I find myself in the situation where I won't be around to post much of anything in the week to come, so I'm giving you my mp3eme all in one big, hard to swallow post.  Hope you don't choke, because these are some pretty cool covers.

First up is one I've posted before but deserves a second listen – the band gODHEAD does a great rendition of the Beatles' Eleanor Rigby…check it out!

And of course, it wouldn't be a complete mp3eme covers post without the original.

Next up is a little California Dreamin' from a Japanese punk band called Hi-Standard:

While The Mamas and The Papas may not have done the original California Dreamin' (really! See the wikipedia article!), it's still probably the best known rendition, so that's what I'm posting here as the "original".

Finally, one that I don't get total cool points on is another punk cover, this time by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.  I've got to take my hat off to them when I listen to Hats Off to Larry.

Ok, maybe I earned half credit on the cool points?  Here's a youtube clip of Del Shannon singing the original.  Sorry for the quality, but it's still an excellent find, in my opinion.
