Ikea + Hacks = Custom Furniture or Work of Art

I heard about Ikea Hacker from Leo Laporte's & Megan Morrone's podcast Jumping Monkeys.  Ikea Hacker is a blog full of posts of people who have modified stock Ikea products to create unique furniture, decorations, and/or works of art.

The hacks range from the simple (using hooks and a cabinet handle to create a space for hanging kitchen utensils) to the complex (creating an entire play kitchen for kids using the ivar storage system) and everything in between.

This looks like a great site to check out if you've been looking to add some flair to your furniture or living space.  You may not find something that fits what you're looking to do, but I bet you'll get some ideas from these modifications.

Another Call to Arms – Hack the Planet (New Vox Group)

Hey neighbors (and/or anyone reading this),

I've set up a new group here on Vox for people who like to share and read tips, tricks, hacks, guides, and how-tos of any kind.  This isn't limited to computers or even techy stuff – if you've got something to share that might help simplify, streamline, or improve your life (or someone else's), this is the place for it.

The group is called Hack the Planet, and I hope anyone who has any interest in this kind of thing will join up and post there.

Also, to build content for the group, I'd like to ask you all for a favor – if you've written any posts along this line in the past, it would be really awesome if you would take a couple minutes to go back and also add them to the group.  If people see activity on the group, they're more likely to join up and post to the group themselves, so this would be a HUGE help in getting the group up and running.

Thanks for checking the group out, and I hope to see some of you over there in the future!

mp3eme VOX: “Drive,” she said.

You have to listen to the lyrics to fully get the mp3eme connection, but I think it's worth it.

A bit of trivia – the narration part in this song is done by Mark Z. Danielewski, author of House of Leaves and brother of Poe (Ann Danielewski).  Both Poe and Danielewski reference each others' works heavily in their own work, and Poe has described her album Haunted and her brother's book as "parallax views of the same story".
