In my household, I’m usually the person behind the camera, snapping photos of the rest of the family. Not that I have any problem hamming it up for the camera, but I like taking photos and so it often falls to me to capture activities and memories on ‘film’ to reminisce over, later.
This past April may have changed that somewhat, though – for the Color Princess’s 6th birthday, she got a Fisher-Price brand digital-toy-camera and has joined the ranks of the amateur photographers in the household. Granted, the resolution of the digital snaps is only 640×480, but she loves taking pictures and seems to have a bit of an eye for composition already. But don’t take my word for it – see for yourself:
Now if only I could get her to write my blog posts for me, too, I’d be all set!

Happy Birthday, kiddo!
I remember my first camera. I still have it! It’s a Hello Kitty film camera, that takes the 110 cartridge film.
What camera do you shoot with? I really want to upgrade, but can’t exactly afford it right now… hoping my next job will pay more and I can treat myself to a nice present.

I am in between “nice” cameras at the moment. Actually, my last “nice” camera was a regular film SLR (I think it was a Canon EOS Rebel 2000?) that I gave up when film development prices started being so outrageous compared to the cost of digital cameras. I’ve been surviving on point-and-shoot cameras for family occasions since then. My plan is to hold off on buying a nice DSLR until the girls are older and we can go more places where I can take it with me. If I bought one now, it would sit dormant on a shelf and taunt me mercilessly.

You really think it would just sit on a shelf??? I use mine all the time. Though I don’t carry it around as much as I would a point & shoot. Even my p&s isn’t in my purse anymore. I end up relying on the iPhone camera.
I’m currently using a Nikon D60, and would like to upgrade… but at the same time, upgrade to what? The thing I love about the D60 is the size of the body. It can fit in my small(ish) hands! I’d like to get the next step up, but should I try to move to a bigger body one? or should I stick with the smaller body (which won’t have as many nifty options as the larger cameras)? Decisions, decisions… at least I won’t have to worry about buying lenses, since I already have a bunch of Nikon lenses. That’s a great thing about Nikon… you can use the old lenses from old SLRs (though you need to shoot completely manually).
But anyway… to summarize what I was trying to say: If you bought a dSLR, it would definitely not just sit on the shelf! :)

Actually, you’re probably right. I guess I better start looking at what I want and put it back on my wishlist in time for my birthday this year ;-)
