The Monday Morning Haiku #16

It is amazing
how kids suck up your free time.
Just like Google+.

Yes, it seems this week I’ve traded one time-suck for another. My wife took the kids to go visit my folks in PA this week, but I unfortunately had to remain behind because of some work commitments.

Basically, I’m home alone all this week, which would ideally put me on the side of productivity, including such gems as mowing the lawn, cleaning the bathrooms, straightening the garage, etc. In reality, it means I’ve spent all my free time checking out the new social media powerhouse that is Google+. I managed to snag an invite near the end of last week from one of the early-early adopters, and within the first 3 days of using it, have decided it is most definitely my preferred social media network. The privacy settings are everything Facebook/WordPress/Tumblr lack, the integration with existing Google services is fantastic, and I can’t help but think that it is only a matter of time before I mothball/delete my Facebook account and switch over 100% to Google+.

If you’re not yet on Google+, invitations open periodically and I’d be happy to invite you so you can see what all the fuss is about. Just let me know what your email address is so I can send the invitation your way. And if you’re already a G+ flunky, you can find me and add me to your circles at http://gplus.to/rossruns . Catch you over there!

Tumblr Reblog Bookmarklet (Including a Means to Reblog Your Own Posts)

Setup:

1) Drag this link up to your browser’s bookmark toolbar: Tumblr Reblog

To Reblog:

1) Go to the permalink of the individual post you want to reblog (e.g. this)  NOTE: Bookmarklet will NOT work on the Tumblr dashboard.  If you can’t figure out how to navigate to the permalink post on a Tumblr blog, click on the top-right corner of the post on your dashboard to get to the permalink URL.

2) Click the “Tumblr Reblog” bookmarklet you set up – it should then process and bring you to a compose screen with the post ready to reblog (even your own posts!)

Caveats – I cobbled this together from some existing bookmarklets, so if something doesn’t work properly, let me know.  May not work for all types of posts (e.g. ones where reblogging is not supported, etc).  Hope this works for you!

If You’re Going to Jump Off a Bridge…

If you're going to jump off a bridge….please don't tell me about it, ok?  I'd hate to be persuaded to join you.

After the Mook decided to go ahead and create a tumblog, I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon.  Anything that is not post-worthy here will probably end up on http://typeset.tumblr.com/ .  But thanks to the magic of the internet – you don't even have to go visit – the new widget in my sidebar will auto-update with the latest entries, giving you up-to-the-minute coverage of everything I've posted that you couldn't possibly care about reading.
